His cats, penguins and his mice are universally known. I am therefore very glad that Uli Stein has provided us with two of his pieces – aren’t they raising a smile?
In everyday life, we hardly ever encounter mice. This is fundamentally different in research laboratories. Hundreds of thousands of the little rodents are losing their lives in distressful experimants. But this doesn’t have to be: there are alternatives to animal experiments.
We are dedicating ourselves to the support and acceptance of these animalfree methods. The group for the replacement of animal experiments is still small. But a lot could be achieved already. Animal experiments are no longer the understood means to an end. Alternative methods are being accepted by science and regulatory authorities with increasing open-mindedness. Improved animal husbandry has moved into many laboratories, and research acknowledges the many advantages of animalfree methods.
But there remains a lot to do, until research can get along without mice. Further rapid development and implementation of animalfree research methods is the decisive factor – without loss in quality, safety, and effectivity of drugs. With your backing, we can support this practical work and continue to provide the necessary information. I am very glad that you are accompanying us on this way – many thanks!
Best regards
