Protecting animals with ALTernatives to animal EXperiments
ALTEX, launched in 1984 by Animalfree Research (back then called FFVFF) has been issued by the Schweizer Verein ALTEX Edition since 2006. It is still supported by our foundation with financial and personal resources and, in the meantime, has become the official organ of
- the Center for Alternatives to Animal Testing (CAAT), at the Johns Hopkins University Baltimore, USA,
- the European Society for Alternatives to Animal Testing (EUSAAT)
- t4 (transatlantic think tank toxicology, Baltimore, Konstanz, Utrecht) and
- the Doerenkamp – Zbinden - chairs in Konstanz (Deutschland), Tiruchirapalli (Indien), Utrecht (Holland), Geneva (Schweiz) and Baltimore (USA).
ALTEX appears quarterly and publishes e.g. news, communications, reviews and original research dealing with the development and implementation of alternative methods to animal experiments in terms of the 3R:

If congresses are taking place, the proceedings are published in special issues. Thus ALTEX has become an indispensable volume for the information exchange between researchers themselves as well as between researchers and public. Starting in 2009, additional to the english scientific editions, a yearly volume with a focus on ethics and the humanities is issued (in german language only).
